Is acute kidney injury associated with a higher mortality in poisoned patients?
Vodovar et al. recently sought to determine whether poisoned patients who develop acute kidney injury have higher mortality compared to those who did not. While all three consensus definitions were independently associated with increased mortality in poisoning, due to data disparities and lack of comparisons of the classifications between poisoned and non-poisoned patients, the authors conclude that they cannot definitively support that worsened kidney function is associated with an increased mortality.
