In a recent case report of a patient treated for what authors believed were symptoms of withdrawal from xylazine, what differences did that patient report between her experience using xylazine as opposed to opioids alone?
The patient reported that she would often fall asleep right after using and that she developed wounds at the sites where she injected that worsened progressively over the preceding 8 months. She was admitted twice for management of these wounds, but left against medical advice due to unmanaged withdrawal symptoms. She reported that her subjective withdrawal symptoms were “different” compared to when using opioids alone and were not responsive to buprenorphine or methadone
