Paradichlorobenzene (PDCB) is an active ingredient in mothballs, deodorizers, and fumigants. PDCB toxicity can affect multiple organ systems. What CNS effects are reported?
Because PDCB toxicity can affect any part of nervous system, there are no signs or symptoms specific for PDCB-induced neurotoxicity. Clinical manifestations are varied. According to the cited reference, of the case reports and series reviewed, all reported some degree of cognitive decline, 57% had encephalopathy and ataxia was reported in nearly half of the cases.
