How would you treat an inhalational exposure to americium-141
DTPA. DTPA can be given via nebulization or intravenously, with various factors contributing to this decision. The recommendation is to specifically administer Ca-DTPA as the first dose within the first 24 hrs after exposure and then switch to Zn-DTPA. Keenan et al describe a case of an americium exposure treated with doses of Ca-DTPA via nebulization on days 2-6 post-exposure, as it was the only form available initially. The pt was then switched to Zn-DTPA after it arrived from the manufacturer and treated ultimately until post-exposure day 16.
