Fluoroquinolones have a long list of adverse events associated with their use. What is the recent new concern?
Fluoroquinolones have recently been linked to increasing risk of aortic dissection and aneurysm. A recent case control study by Etminan et al show that patients receiving quinolones had a higher risk of aortic and mitral regurgitation. (Etminan M et al. Oral Fluoroquinolones and risk of mitral and aortic regurgitation. J American College of Cardiology. 2019; 74(11):1444-1450. doi: doi.org/10.1016/j.jacc.2019.07.035)
