How many patients receive medications for opioid use disorder after a nonfatal opioid overdose?
A cohort study including over 15,000 young adults (aged 18-45) in Massachusetts between 2012-2014 found approximately 1 in 3 received buprenorphine, methadone, or naltrexone within 12 months of an opioid overdose. The median time to treatment was 3-5 months. (Bagley SM, et al. Characteristics and Receipt of Medication Treatment Among Young Adults Who Experience a Nonfatal Opioid-Related Overdose.
