It is already the middle of the summer, so I hope you have found some time for a vacation, in or out of the heat. I saw these beauties on my recent trip to Sequoia National Park myself. Share your vacation moments with your AACT colleagues. Open the AACT Mobile App and share in the field at the top news feed.
Now that the new academic year has started it is good time to reflect on your accomplishments and plan for your future. A career in academics continues to revitalize my mind with new information, preserving the youthfulness of a perpetual student, but for some reason the rest of me continues to age. The pages on the calendar keep turning, and before you know it, twenty years of NACCT meetings have already happened.
We are all instinctively teachers of clinical toxicology, and many of us are researchers at different levels, but service is the third component of a successful academic career. The AACT is where everyone belongs because all medical professionals and scientists have the same status and opportunities within the organization. Our strength is our diversity of backgrounds and talents.
Our members are our sustainable and renewable energy. Consider how the AACT can enhance your scholarly development as a leader in clinical toxicology. We have so many opportunities on committees and sections. Visit our website and find your happy place. Our new Education Committee is continually searching for content experts for national and international speaking events. This is a great way to expand your academic portfolio, meet new people, learn about different cultures, and see the world.
By this time, I hope you have already registered for NACCT 2022. If you have not, don’t miss your chance to attend #NACCT2022. This event will only be in-person in beautiful San Francisco. This is the largest clinical toxicology meeting in the world and brings together people from around the globe. Chris Hoyte and the organizers have been working night and day to make this event the summit of clinical toxicology education and research. Because we have been virtual for the last two years it will be a reunion with all your old friends and colleagues. Real people sipping wine on the pier while admiring the sunset behind the Golden Gate Bridge!
Take in the sun this summer and have some fun. Register for NACCT 2022, book your hotel and flight, get your posters made, practice your presentation and I will see you in San Francisco in the Fall.
Respectfully,
Kirk Cumpston, DO
President, AACT
