This antidote has been theorized as being an adjunct antidote for treatment of acetaminophen poisoning?
A recent study by Min Kang et al. evaluated the effect of fomepizole's ability to inhibit the oxidative metabolism of acetaminophen in healthy volunteers after receiving 80 mg/kg acetaminophen. This study showed that fomepizole reduced oxidative metabolism of acetaminophen in healthy human volunteers. The authors conclude that further study is needed to investigate a possible role for fomepizole in the treatment of acetaminophen overdose in patients. (Min Kang A et al. The Effect of 4-methylpyrazole on oxidative metabolism of acetaminophen in human volunteers. JMT 2019 doi: 10.1007/s13181-019-00740-z)
