What is the proposed mechanism for combining bupropion and dextromethorphan for treating depression?
The bupropion serves to increase dextromethorphan concentrations through inhibition of its metabolism. In a 6 week, randomized, double blind trial, dextromethorphan-bupropion was associated with reduced Montgomery-Asberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS) compared to bupropion alone.
