AACT recognizes Veterans’ Day and celebrates its members.
“My time in the US Navy Reserve was atypical, short, and impactful. Having always wanted to serve and being deeply impacted by 9/11, my number was eventually called. After several discussions with veterans (including Drs. Wills and Kostic), and with the sincere support from my family and worksite (Cook County Health), I was commissioned in my early 40s. It seems like within the blink of an eye, I found myself in Kandahar, Afghanistan immersed in lessons (TNTC) I’ll keep for a lifetime. The teamwork and collegial atmosphere shared with my shipmates in a downrange posture coupled with the presence of capable and dedicated young enlisted servicemembers was quite humbling. Most notably, one can’t help but be forever changed when medically caring for those who sacrifice life and limb on a daily basis for our freedom. These patriots are why we live in the greatest country in the world!”
