Polypharmacy is common in seniors 65 and older with chronic illnesses such as hypertension, diabetes2, and obesity, plus drug levels increase due to declining rates of metabolism. The vulnerable population is increasing in numbers and proportion. And, seniors take 30% of prescribed medications while numbering 15% of the population. Approaches from the evidence-based literature will describe how deprescribing and Beers Criteria can effectively deal with these issues.
