We just unwrapped 2022, and it promises to be an eventful year. That’s right, it will be a gift that keeps on giving. I know almost two years into the COVID-19 pandemic, many of us have experienced fatigue, stress, fear, isolation, loss, doubt, frustration and anger. We each have had our personal trials during this time, and undoubtedly there will be more. More is exactly what we need.
The AACT is a multidisciplinary organization uniting scientists and clinicians in the advancement of research, education, prevention, and treatment of injury caused by chemicals, drugs, and toxins. There has never been a better time than now to carry out this mission. “You must be present to win,” was a common requirement to receive a gameshow prize, and our presence is needed now in healthcare. Together we will win.
Whether trained in pharmacy, nursing, EMS, emergency medicine, pediatrics, preventive medicine, internal medicine, clinical research or psychiatry, there is nobody better than the clinical toxicologist to handle the complications of this pandemic related to xenobiotics. We have already and will continue to adapt our lives and practice to preserve our health, so we can continue to serve those who need our expertise. In the worst of times, it is the best time for us to demonstrate strength, resiliency, and commitment to our mission in life.
As the President of AACT, I have been a witness to many tests of our organization. Even if we are virtual, we will maintain the connection to our members. We will continue to provide educational, research and service opportunities for our members to enhance their professional lives. Because of the many challenges, we are working harder than ever. The result is the AACT will be better, you will be better, and your patients will better because of you.
Please join me in welcoming 2022. We will embrace the challenges, overcome the obstacles, and will be ready to face the next one. The AACT is here to support you through this journey. This is our moment. Now more than ever, we need to be together.
